32rogues is a free 32x32 fantasy-themed sprite & tile set primarily intended for traditional roguelikes.

Designed favoring simplicity and readability, 32rogues is meant to lightly evoke the ASCII origins of the roguelike genre.

The spriteset contains over 50 sprites of humanoids and monsters, and over 80 animal sprites.  32rogues is a work in progress and is still being updated!

Update 9/17/2024: 50 new sprites, including heroes, townsfolk, and many monsters have been added!

Update 4/19/2024: Now with tiles and items!

Do you have any particular sprite or tile requests? Fill out this short request form or leave a comment below!

I'd love to see what you're making with this sprite set! Share your work with me on Blue Sky and Mastodon!

We’re using some of this on Wizard Sokoban and are loving it. I hope you play a level or two to see the stair animation we made!

I love the animation!  Thanks for sharing.

Update is big! U r the best

(+1)

This is probably the best 2D roguelike sprite pack I have ever seen! Thank you for this.

Hello, awesome job!

I have credited you as the artist of my little project, Talaxis Palace, which is part of the Jam of Cerulea 2024. Thank you very much for your pixel art, it is definitely worth its price!

I filled the form but I will repeat it here: I would love something similar in a sci-fi setting with aliens, space-ships, planets, space troopers, robots, ray guns and the like. Of course, it´s just a suggestion.

Neat project, thanks for sharing!

I'd love to do a sci-fi pack.  Maybe someday :)

These assets are pure fire, i will use them for an rpg game for sure, i would like to see animation of them, i know it's a lot of work but i'm sure this will increase the hottestness of this assets. Thanks for that.

(+1)

Just curious bro if you got Sprite sheets even basic idle types of any Monsters? i will definitely credit you and donate once i got it going in my game. any of 16x16 or 32x32 is super awesome if you do?? i love the sprites you have so far!!!

was thinking of putting it in my game:
Above and Beyond 4.3.0 by Cyber_Goat (itch.io)

(+1)

also if you want you can join my game discord and such and see the art we did already for the game and live updates and such:

Thanks for the kind words! I'd love to do animations eventually, but I simply don't have the time right now for the amount of work that would be.  I hope someday.

Theses are really beautiful artworks ! Now I want to make a rogue-like just to see them working :D

(+1)

Thanks so much!

(+1)

Ye there is really nice work

(+1)

holy shit man these are so nice. i needed a cute sprite set for a roguelike project for my uni coding class and these were a lifesaver. i LOVE the color scheme you used! mwaahhhh (<- thats me kissing you)

Thank you! I'm glad it's been useful.

(+1)

Found you from your Reddit post. This is a very nice set! It's hard to find stylized 32x32 sprites with realistic proportions.

(+1)

Just checked out the pack. The creature text reference is a very nice touch!

Glad it's helpful! Thanks for the kind words.

Hi Seth, I was wondering if there's an email to get in touch (or Discord). Topics include: maybe commissioning expanded sprite sheet and also contributing to said sheet with additions/modifications I've made.

If neither are of interest then I'll just say thanks for the cool sprites!

Oh, hm, I don't have a good solution for this.  Since Itch doesn't have a private messaging system, you can either message me on Twitter or Mastodon, or use the Feedback form to send me your Discord invite/some more info.  I check them all regularly.

Hey hey. I have neither of the platforms above so I sent a form via feedback a few days ago. Let me know if it didn't go through and I'll try again!

hm, I sent you an email because on Discord it said you weren't accepting friend requests.  I'll send another one--maybe check your spam folder?

(+1)

Heya do you mind if my team uses some of these for a game jam entry?

(+1)

Go ahead, that's what they are for!  Feel free to use them for game jams, prototypes, published games, whatever.

(+1)

Thanks

(+9)

nice NFT clause in the licensing! fuck nft bros! B)

(+1)

Love your work! I used some of the assets in my new prototype/game and plan on integrating more in the future. They are really helpful

Glad to hear that and thanks for sharing! Your prototype looks neat.

(+1)

Thanks for the great assets! I made a small prototype using them :)

your prototype is neat, thanks for sharing!

(+1)

Hello!

Love this stuff. Especially, martial artists in correct guards. Your knight in chain cap two-handing a sword across their body is my favourite! (Crossbowman and blond guy with a staff are also sick) (Oh, and the guy with unrealistically proportioned hammer. Also very sick)

I would like to request xianxia style cultivator rogues, or just easter asian style fighters. Cause you don't have them (how dare you). And i'd like to have them 👉👈

(+2)

Thanks for the kind words!  The knight is also one of my favorites.

Most of the characters are based of off standard European medieval fantasy fare, but I definitely want to branch out eventually.  Stay tuned!

Aww, i see :(

Will do :3

Well, then! What do you think of Rapier rogue? Maybe Rapier and Dagger/Cloak?

Here's souce with images:

You'll need to go Book - Part and scroll down untill you see images

(+1)

that's a cool idea, I'll put it on my list

I've added a fencer of this style to the latest update:

Dashing rogue ans stabbing too!

(+1)

Amazing!

(+1)

This looks great! Do you plan to add animations?

(+2)

Thank you! I'd love to, but it'd simply be a ton of work for this many sprites. That won't happen any time soon.

Ok, thanks for responding

(+1)

This is so cool! Nice work.

(+1)

Looks awesome. Did you use a specific palette or a custom one? The colors fit so nicely.

(+1)

Thank you!  I used a custom 64 color palette I developed for this project

(+1)

Absolutely amazing work! I made a little minigame with use of your art assets elevated it to a whole new level! Thank you so much! I am perfectionist so it's hard for me to find something I'm looking for.

I would for sure use this pack in my future games too, thank you!

(+1)

Hey your game is quite fun!  I'm glad these assets were helpful :)

(+2)

Perfection

Thank you!

(+1)

Awesome asset pack. My next roguelike will use those for sure! love

(+1)

Coop Catacombs 2!? But seriously can't wait to see what you make with them.

(+1)

Keep on the good work!!! Amazing!

Thanks so much!

(+3)

wow these are actually so amazing. i kinda wanna participate in 7drl JUST to use these.

thanks so much!  It's a fun game jam with a great community, I definitely recommend it.

(+2)

This License is not well enough defined "It may not be used in conjunction with artificial intelligence". Literally every game ever has artificial intelligence of some sort. I suspect you dont mean this but this is how it reads.... Artificial intelligence OR machine learning projects....

(+1)

I edited the license. I hope that clears things up.

(+1)

Thank you!

(+3)

I'm a fan of this type of art and you have done a wonderful job.

thank you!

(+3)

Really really great! Would love to play Dwarf Fortress with tileset in this style (or any traditional roguelike tbh).

I would recommend to attach the example images to the announcement post on Mastodon to make it a bit more eycatchy. I almost scrolled passed it.

(+3)

Thanks!  That's good feedback about the post.

This actually started as DF mod I was tinkering with in my spare time.  Which explains why there are so many animals.  I quickly realized there were way too many graphics for me to replace for me do by myself in a timely manner, so I extracted the graphics for this project, and added new humanoid/monster sprites.  Maybe someday I'll make that mod...
